Size does matter! The new British icebreaker, RRS Sir David Attenborough which becomes operational in 2019, will be larger than existing ships used by the British Antarctic Survey, such as James Clark Ross and the Ernest Shackleton. The new ship will have spacious science labs, as well as a moon pool, which is a hole through the center of the ship to deploy research equipment.
